This high qualitative Biedermeier horse painting was executed ca. in 1820s- 1830s and was purchased in a Munich private estate. Due to the identical manner and quality and comparison with other famous works by the same artist it has all criteria to be attributed to one of the most important German horse and battle painter of 19th century Albrecht Adam (for comparison see additional photos of his other works ).Albrecht Adam (1786 Nördingen - 1862 Munich) was the founder of the great Munich family of painters and one of most important German horse and battle painters of the 19th century (see exhibition cataloque "Albrecht Adam and his family", Munich, 1982). Albrech Adam began an apprenticeship as a confectioner and went to Nuremberg to start his practise in 1803. However, influenced by the director of the Academy of Fine Arts of Nuremberg and later by Johann Rugendas, he turned towards painting - mainly battlefields and horses. After participating in the Austrian campaign of 1809, he stayed for a time in Vienna , where he drew the attention of Napoleon´s stepson Eugene de Beauharnais and was appointed his court painter. Most of Adam´s subsequent works deal with Napoleon´s Russian campaign, in which he participated under de Beauharnais. Among other works, he painted a diary of the campaign in 83 scenes. In 1815, Adam moved to Munich , which was occupied by the emperors and kings of Bavaria and Austria. His studio in Munich was frequently visited by Theodor Horschelt, who later became well known for his paintings of the Russian Caucasian War. Albrecht Adam worked until a great age, recording battles and portraying horses, even though in his late works he was supported by the help of his sons, Benno, Eugen, Franz and Julius. He partly co-operated also with his sons, so for instance with his son Franz, with which he created a monumental rider portrait of the young emperor Franz Joseph I. of Austria, which is today (how many other works by him) situated in the Viennese Historical Museum of Army. It is traced that he lived at Sing Straße 13 in Munich around 1850. Adam died in Munich in 1862. Provenance: Munich noble private estate.
