Extreme rare military scene , dated 1826 depicting episode from the Russian-Napoleonic Wars 1812-1814 : Russian cossack on horse saves a wounded officer during skirmish again French troop. The author of this work German military and hunting painter Julius Carl Schulz took part in this campaigns, studied at the Art Academy in Berlin, where in 1820-1840s created his genre military scenes of Russian and Prussian armies during Napoleonic wars. His battle paintings are extreme rare on the art market and arrived high results. For comparison see adiitional photos of few another military paintings by J.C.Schulz , sold last years on the international auctions.

Provenance: purchased by British auction house "Keys" on 12.03.2010 (see photo of auction label).

Literature: Nagler "Kunstlexikon"; Franz von Boetticher "Malerwerke des 19.Jahrhunderts" ,Leipzig 1891 (p.679); Thieme/Becker "Allgemeines Kuenstlerlexikon ", Leipzig, 1999.

Inscription: signed with author`s famous monogram C.S. and sword and dated 1826 lower in ther middle . For monogram see "Die Monogrammisten" by Dr.G.K.Nagler, Volume 2, page No. 240, Hirth edition, Munich, 1921.

Technique: oil on canvas. Original period gold-plated empire frame.

Measurements: unframed w 22 5/8" x h 19 " (57,5 x 48 cm), framed w 29 1/2" x h 25 3/4" (75 x 65,5 cm)

Condition: in very good condition, old professional relining of canvas.
