According to the style and manner of painting we attribute our pastel to famous German portrait and genre painter Johann Lorenz Kreul (1765-1840). He studied at the Art School of Nurnberg and later under the tutelage of court painter in Ansbach Fr.Naumann. Kreul undertook study travels all over Germany and worked as a court painter in Stuttgart and in Bavaria. The artist is famous for his portraits of German noblemen.
