Masterfully portrait watercolour of a young beauty (due to the original back description Elise Thurneysen (1825-1900), woman from the famous Swiss noble clan Thurneysen in Basel, wife of fabrikant Emil Thurneysen and mother of famous Swiss linquist and celticist Eduard Rudolf Thurnneysen (1857 - 1940). The author of this watercolour was well known Swiss portrait and historical painter Johann Friedrich Thurneysen (1804 Solothurn - 1874 Bern). Son of the painter Josef Felix T., ∞ 1841 Maria Anna Josefine Schürer. Assistance in the father workshop and drawing study by portrait painter Charles Germann in Solothurn. 1822-33 study stay in Paris in the studio of Antoine Jean Gros and creation of copies of old masters in the Louvre. 1834-35 in the studio by Léopold Robert in Venice From 1836 during several years professor at the again opened art school in Bern and order painter of numerous nole families. D. dedicated himself occasionally to the historical and genre painting, more rare landscapes studies, became however v.a. as portraitist admits. He painted over 5' 000 portraits in oil and watercolor. His simple landscapes studies in oil he let new tendencies of the Pleinair painting flow.

Inscription: signed and dated 1848 on the balustrade middle left, on the reverse original inscription about the sitter.
Technique: watercolour on paper. Matted and framed in luxuriousy original period gold-plated frame.
