Our work, painted by a prominent Austrian painter Roland Strasser (1895 - 1974), portrays an episode of French colonial wars in Orient. The artist studied at the Vienna Academy under R.Jettmar and later at the Munich Academy under A.Jank and then lived and worked in Santa Monica, CA. The artist travelled a lot, especially to the Middle East, Far East, Africa, Western Europe, etc. His travelling experience helped him a lot in 1937 when he was mistakingly arrested for espionage by Russian NKVD (secret police) and had to make the whole way back to Vienna by Trans-Siberian. Upon returning to Europe the artist moved to London and later (in 1952) settled in the USA.
