Important painting for Austrian art history: portrait of world-renowned historical and decoration painter Hans Makart (1840 Salzburg - 1884 Vienna), executed by the author Eduard Ender (1822 Rome - 1883 London) in 1882, also two years before Makart`s death. Eduard Ender, son of portrait painter Johann Ender and nephew of landscape artist Thomas Ender. The artist studied by his father, later Viennese academy and finally studied in Paris. Ender is noted alike for his historical and genre works, which he exhibited since 1844 in Vienna and Germany, among others are "Francis I in the Studio of Cellini"; "Shakespeare Reading “Macbeth” before the Court of Elizabeth"; "La Corbeille de Mariage"; and "A Game of Chess". Both painters : author Eduard Ender and sitter of portrait Hans Makart were active in Vienna as historical artists in the same time and we can assume in all probability that they knew each other For comparison with other images of Hans Makart see additional photos.
