High quality biedermeier portrait watercolour of a young Viennese noble lady was executed ca. 1840 by renowed Austrian portrait , miniature painter miniaturist and lithographer Georg Decker (1818 Pest - 1894 Vienna). George Decker was the son of the painter Johann Stefan Decker and brother of the painters Albert Decker and Gabriel Decker. He came 1821 together with his family to Vienna and begun to study as pupil of his father. To beginning of the 1840er years he studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Vienna. Over 1860 he led a private mark school and from 1861 was member of the artist union "Kuenstlerhaus". The plan of the Viennese royal house to furnish for Decker a school for pastell painting did not come off. George Decker was married of 1851-1860 in first marriage with Ottilie of Sobek, after her death married he 1861 Josefine Helene of Lucam. 1909 was in honours. of the artist designated the Deckergasse in Vienna Meidling . George Decker began with watercolor portraits. Starting from 1844 he was active with oil painting, from 1850 with genre and historical paintings. After a stay in Dresden he turned to the pastel , which he encouraged again and so that obtained large successes.
