Museum quality rider combat scene as episode from the Sardini War between Austrian-Hungarian Monarchy and the Kingdom of Sardinien (and its allied France under Napoléon III), result of which was reunification of Italy. The painting was executed in 1868 by important Munich military and horse painter Eugen Adam (1817 - 1880) and indicated in the List of Adam`s works (see F.von Boetticher "Malerwerke des 19. Jahrhunderts ", Leipzig, 1941, p.17, No. 9 as "Reitergefecht zwischen österreichischen Ulanen und piemontischen Dragonern . 1868 gemalt".Austro-Piedmontese War or Austro-Sardinian War, or Austro-Piedmontese War, was fought by Napoleon III of France and Kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia against the Austrian Empire in 1859.
