Portrait miniature of a young ladywas was executed ca. in 1770 and due to quality was attributed to Gustavus Hamilton (1739 - 1775 Dublin), famous Irish miniaturist of 18th century. We found the name of sitter on miniture after comparison with miniature by Gustavus Hamilton, sold in Christies, London on 9.Dec. 2008 and depicting same person: sister of the artist : Elisabeth Hamilton, married Maffett. Gustavus Hamilton, pupil of Robert West in the drawing school by Royal irish society , then together with J.Reilly and d.o`Keeffe by sam. Dixon. since 1765 as miniature painter and exhibited until 1773 in the Dublin Soc.of artists small portraits and miniatures , recieved many orders from high society. Works by him situated in the national gallery of Irland and private collections.
