Extreme rare portrait miniture by Moritz Michael Daffinger (1790 - Vienna - 1849), most famous Austrian miniaturist of 19th century and one of the best miniature painters in the world. . Daffinger was a pupil of Heinrich Friedrich Fueger. His specialty was painting on china. Since 1809 he worked only om portraits and specialised in painting on ivory. Since 1812 he worked as portrait painter by Count Metternich , since 1836 became the Main Master of the portrait collection of Countess Melanie von Metternich. Later, he was influenced by the English portrait painter Thomas Lawrence, who was in Vienna in 1815 for the Conress of Vienna. Daffinger´s more than a thousand portraits were mostly owned by the Austrian imperial house. His portrait was on the obverse of the Austrian imperial house.
