Our perfect detailed piece was created by famous Austrian landscape and architecture painter Karl Kaufmann (1843-1905). He studied at Vienna Academy and was active in Vienna in the 1900s. Our painting was signed by the artist with Kaufmanns famous pseudonym "Leo Perla" , which was one of several pseudonyms adopted by artist Karl Kaufmann to circumvent the exclusionary contracts many 19th c. art dealers and galleries compelled their artists to sign. It was not unusual for popular artists to have contracts at various galleries under different names; this enabled them to offer their works in different venues without breaking any legally binding contractual agreements. They were thus afforded the opportunity for more sales. Other works by Karl Kaufmann see under item No. 1723;1601; 1574; 1542; 1479; 1370; 180.
