Monumental old mastefully hand-painted laquer box after original painting "The Fountain of Bakhchisarai" (in Russian: Áàõ÷èñàðàéñêèé ôîíòàí) by most renown russian romanticist of 19 century Karl Pavlovich Briullov (1799 St.Petersburg - 1852 Rome). Original painting by Briullov situated in Pushkin Museum, Moscow. Our lacquer box was executed on the famous lacquer manufacture Fedoskino by artist Malashov in 1956 and is a turned over copy of celebrated painting by K.Bruillov. Early soviet lacquer boxes of those format and quality are quite rare on art market. For comparison see photo of original Bruillov painting under link:

Inscription: signed and dated in Russian: Fedoskino, Malashov, 1956 lower right.
Technique: lacque, oil on papier-mashe( a construction material that consists of pieces of paper, sometimes reinforced with textiles, stuck together using a wet paste (e.g., glue, starch, or wallpaper adhesive). The crafted object becomes solid when the paste dries).
Measurements: box 10" x 7 1/2" x 2 2/3 " x "(25,5 x 19 x 6,5 cm ), painting: w 10 " x h 7 1/2 " (25,5x 19 cm) .
