Emanuel Thomas Peter (1799 Jaegerndorf - 1873 Vienna) was a very well-known Austrian portrait miniaturist of the 19th century. From 1818 he studied at the Vienna Academy, at first architecture and then miniature painting under the famous Moritz Michael Daffinger. He copied a lot of Daffinger´s miniatures with such artistic skill, that it is often impossible to distinguish between copies and originals. After a stay in Silezia Peter returned to Vienna in 1830 and became there one of the leading miniaturists. His best works were created between 1830 and 1850.
