Young Fisher and Sea Nymph Amphitrite - this mythological subject came from The Metamorphoses by the Roman poet Ovid., one of the most popular works of mythology, being the Classical work best known to medieval writers and thus having a great deal of influence on medieval poetry.
Our monumental mythological painting was executed by listed Austrian historical and genre painter Georg Kugler (1840 - 1916), who was popular with his fairy tale motives and allegorical scenes from German history. For comparison see two addtional photos of Kugler works (one of them is fully identical second version of our painting) , which were exhibited for sale in Dorotheum Salzburg , april 2012. Georg Kugler studied at the Viennese academy by Joseph Fuehrich, worked as drawing teacher in Vienna, Sternberg and Iglau. His work "Bacchante", dated 1890, situated in the Franzens-museum in Brno.
