Portrait of a gentleman in profile , in blue coat, white walstcoat and powdered  quality and time of creation  attributed to russian miniature painter Peter Ernst Rockstuhl (1764 - 1824). For comparisons of the stilistic identicy with similar miniatures by Rockstuhl see monographies "Artist P.E.Rockstuhl" by T.A. Selinova, Moscow, 2005 ; "Portrait miniature from the State Russian Museum", St.Petersburg, 1979, p.124-129 (see last 3 additional photos) and similar miniatures by Rockstuhl , sold by Sothebys and Christies Auction houses (see photos No.5-7).

Peter Ernst Rockstuhl (1764-1824), russian portrait miniature painter , born 1764 possibly in  Warsaw , died in 1824 in St.Petersburg.. His son  Alois Gustav Rockstuhl , also famous miniature painter (), born in Riga. After 1798 the  family came to St.Petersburg , where the painter soon became a very popular miniaturist, whose sitters were members of the high aristocracy and royalities.  They were situated  in russian private and public collections, among them 25 miniatures in the Historical Museum Moscow and 10 works -  in the Russian Museum and Hermitage).

 Inscription: unsigned , on the  reverse - collector´s inscription in pencil.

Technique:  painted in oval , gouache on ivory.  Original period frame. 

Measurements:  unframed w 1 7/8" x h 2 1/8" (4,7 x 5,3 cm), framed w 4" x h 4 1/2" ( 10 x 11,3cm).

Condition: in very good condition
